Self-propel is a slope feature, not a size feature. On flat ground a 21-inch electric mower is not hard to push; on a lawn with real inclines, or for anyone who finds pushing difficult, a drive system changes the job entirely. That is the case this mower answers.
EGO's Touch Drive puts speed control at your fingertips with a variable range from 0.9 to 3.1 mph, which in practice means you set the mower to your own walking pace rather than fighting it. The Select Cut system here takes three interchangeable lower blades — mulching, high-lift bagging and extended runtime — and the deck covers the same useful 1-to-4-inch range as the push model. LED headlights and a fold-flat frame are useful extras rather than marketing.
The trade-offs are honest ones: a drive system is more weight, more cost and more to go wrong, and the rated runtime drops to 60 minutes because some of the battery now moves the mower rather than the blade. If your yard is flat and small, buy the push version and spend the difference elsewhere.
