Full Review
Corded mowers have been squeezed out of most buying advice by cordless models, but for a small yard close to an outlet the logic still holds: there is no runtime to ration, no pack to degrade over five years, and no charger to wait on. The motor delivers the same power on the last pass as the first.
The 20-inch steel deck and seven cutting heights from 1.5 to 3.75 inches actually give a better height range than the 16-inch cordless Greenworks above, and the 3-in-1 discharge options are the same ones you get on machines costing several times as much.
The cord is the whole story. You are working inside a radius set by your extension lead, typically about 100 feet, and you spend real attention keeping the cord behind you and out of the blade path. On an open, small lawn that is a minor tax; on a lot full of beds, trees and furniture it is the reason most people go cordless.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Never runs out mid-cut; constant power from the first pass to the last
- No battery to degrade, replace or store over winter
- Cutting heights from 1.5 in. to 3.75 in. — a better range than the 16 in. cordless
- 3-in-1 mulching, rear bagging and side discharge on a steel deck
Cons
- Tethered to roughly a 100 ft extension cord, which limits reach
- Cord management is a genuine nuisance on obstacle-heavy lots
- 56 lbs, heavier than the 16 in. cordless despite having no battery
